DoReMingo

Hear a note. Feel where it lives.

What is DoReMingo?

DoReMingo is a free ear-training game that teaches you to recognise musical notes by ear — the skill behind playing songs without sheet music, improvising, and singing in tune. No musical education needed: the game explains everything as you go, and it works right in your browser, on your phone or computer.

How does it work?

Each round, a short chord pattern shows your ear where home is — the key. Then one mystery note plays, and you say which note it was: Do, Re, Mi and friends. After every answer, the note audibly walks back home step by step, so your ear learns the note's character whether you guessed right or not. Levels start with just three notes and grow gently to every note, minor keys, changing keys and short melodies.

The philosophy

DoReMingo is built on functional ear training — the Kodály movable-do tradition used in real music education. Instead of memorising pitch names (near-impossible for adults) or drilling abstract intervals, you learn how each note feels relative to the key: Re leans down, Ti pulls up, Do rests. That relative skill transfers directly to real music in any key — exactly how experienced musicians hear.

And because practice only works if you come back: no lives, no fail states, no punishments. Wrong answers teach you the same way right ones do. Just a happy flamingo, bright colours, and your ear getting sharper one note at a time.
